About Us

Welcome to the Northwest District! 

Our district is now home for 116 churches witnessing to approximately 8,670 square miles of territory in the northwest corner of Missouri. 

From the Iowa state line on the north to the Missouri River on the south, and from the Kansas/Nebraska state lines on the west to Highway 65 on the east (minus Grundy and Mercer counties; plus a few churches beyond Hwy. 65), we represent a big area!  A majority of our people live in the cities and suburbs where they worship in some of our younger congregations – some just a few years old; some brand new!  However, most of our churches serve rural areas.  Many of those churches are well over 100 years old where they have been witnesses to the good news of Jesus Christ to generations of people called Methodist.

I look forward to discerning and exploring the ways God is calling us to be the Church to, for, among, and with the 581,000 people who live within our district’s borders.  We have important, life-changing work to do.  Together, let’s transform the world!

Rev. Cindy Buhman is the superintendent of the Northwest District since July 2015. Rev. Buhman knows our district well. She served as pastor of Savannah UMC from 2010 to 2015, and from 2003 to 2010 was pastor at Bethany. In addition, she served as associate pastor at Ashland UMC, after working at Stanberry and Winston as a seminarian. In fact, her entire life has been in churches in our district, having grown up in Maysville. She was ordained Elder in 2003 and graduated from Saint Paul School of Theology with her Master in Divinity in 2000.

Rev. Buhman currently serves at the Cabinet Liaison to the Missouri Conference Board of Ordained Ministry and to the Mozambique Initiative.
